From the state Capitol to neighborhood parties, Creative Ice Cream Events’ family-style approach to catering brings a down-home, ice-cream social feel to any event.

Q: Tell us about Creative Ice Cream Events.
A: Creative Ice Cream Events has been “serving therapy with a cherry since 1986” by providing premium and super-premium ice cream, floats, shakes, splits and ice-cream cakes for business and social events. Eight years ago we added food to our menu through our Apple Dumpling Café.

Q: What are some of your most memorable experiences in the events business?
A: Actually, it’s been having our six kids grow up doing events, festivals and working in the café. They learned a lot about people, finances, money handling and the work ethic while having fun and creating lasting memories as a family. Doing events at the state Capitol is always fun, too. You never know who or what kind of people will be there.

Q: Tell us about one of your most extreme ice-cream clients.
A: We once did a total ice-cream wedding for a couple who played Mickey and Minnie Mouse at Disneyland. There was an ice-cream cake shaped like an ice-cream cone, people signed in on a large ice-cream board and took name tags shaped as ice-cream cones. Each table was labeled with a different ice-cream flavor and we did milkshake toasts and sundaes. It was an ice-cream dream!

Q: What advice would you give someone who wants to get started in this cool line of work?
A: Funny that you ask. We’re just starting to go nationwide with our concept by providing referrals, education, training, equipment and support for setting up our system. You’ll have to contact us directly for our secrets. But I will say, do not go cheap on the ice cream or the service!
