Have an event on the horizon? Then it may be time to check out your catering and event planning options. Although I’ll periodically introduce you to caterers and event planners in other Texas regions, this particular post is focused on Austin.

Dagar’s Catering

Dagar’s Catering, the oldest catering company in Austin, opened in 1952 in a small café on Sixth Street, but has grown into a full-service catering company known throughout central Texas. The company can handle event catering of all sizes and has built a reputation on providing each occasion with a polished and delicious customized menu. That said, Dagar’s still offers some of the best Texas BBQ in town, alongside a variety of cuisines envisioned by Chef Sas Taber. Hint: Try the watermelon salad or salad in a martini glass.

DNA Events

DNA Events was founded by Kathryn and Frank Albarado in 2009 after many years in the catering and event industry. As the sister company of Dagar's Catering, DNA Events has become a full-service catering company, providing everything down to the plates and staff—just not the food. Instead, DNA Events partners with other notable restaurants and food providers throughout Texas to bring clients a seamless, full-service wedding or event.

The Peached Tortilla

The Peached Tortilla opened in Austin in 2010 as a single food truck serving Asian- and Southern-inspired tacos and sliders. It has since grown to include several food trucks and a permanent location at 5520 Burnet Rd., and now caters all types of events—with or without a food truck. If you’re looking for a catering menu that features The Peached Tortilla’s well known street food items, then you’ve hit the jackpot. Of course, you could also request more traditional entree options like roasted salmon with tomato jam or a Kalua pork shoulder, served family style with bibb lettuce, sweet Hawaiian rolls and pickled vegetables. The Peached Tortilla clients have included H&M, Cricket Wireless, Nike, Google and Whole Foods.

Heidel House Resort & Spa in Green Lake, Wis., has announced a Pick Your Promotion deal that will last through Dec. 30, 2017.

Packages include discounts on a private Escapade Yacht Cruise, a complimentary Executive Golf Package, a complimentary Breakfast Break, a S'mores Bar and Bonfire and more. Heidel House Resort & Spa is situated on Green Lake, no more than 90 minutes away from many of Wisconsin's major cities.

The Highland Lakes Region extends from Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin to 100 miles outside the city to Lake Buchanan. The chain of seven lakes formed from a series of dams along the Colorado River offer opportunities to boat, kayak, fish and swim while taking in the Texas Hill Country.

It’s a “serene environment,” says Salina McCullough, sales and programs manager at Canyon of the Eagles, “away from the hustle and bustle of the city.”

Under 5 percent is what Carmen Callo, executive chef at Centerplate, estimates is the percentage of special dietary requests he received about five years ago. Today, as he oversees catering at Colorado Convention Center in Denver, he and his team are cooking for groups where 15 to 20 percent of attendees have special dietary requirements.
